LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction surgery in Orange County
Liposuction surgery, also known as suction lipectomy or lipoplasty, removes excess fatty tissue from under the skin using suction techniques. Liposuction (especially for cosmetic purposes) is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in Orange County. The procedure may treat various areas of the body including the hips, buttox, and outer thighs or smaller areas such as the neck and chin.
Your Orange County plastic surgeon will determine the liposuction technique that is right for you. There are various types of liposuction procedures that are current being used in across the U.S. and in Orange County.
Tumescent liposuction: A large dose of liquid (lidocaine, epinephrine and salt solution) is injected to the specified area to be treated. Usually the quantity of fluid injected is three times that of the fat to be removed. The liquid works as a local anesthetic and prevents the loss of blood and fluid thus making the removal of fat much easier.- Ultrasonic liposuction: Ultrasonic sound waves melt fat deposits into a liquid state.
Using ultrasound along with the injected tumescent fluid helps emulsify the liquid fat making it easy to remove. - Super wet liposuction: Although it is called “super wet”, this version of the tumescent technique is actually done with less fluid injection. In this case, the amount of fluid used is equal to the amount of lipid being removed. For this type of liposuction general anesthetic is also required.
Laser liposuction: This is also known as lunchtime lipo, smartlipo or laser lipo. This is one of the modern methods used to remove lipid.
Liposuction requires very careful consideration of your particular concerns and the part of the body which you desire some improvement. Dr. Doezie will determine the technique that is best suited for your goals.
Before the procedure Dr. Doezie will use a marker to designate the area of your body to be treated. During the procedure small, inconspicuous incisions are made in these marked areas. Through these incisions a cannula, or thin tube, is inserted to infuse the fluid and suction the fat.
Liposuction should not be considered a substitute for weight loss. Although the results of cosmetic surgery are technically permanent, your liposuction results can be greatly affected by significant fluctuations in weight. Moderate weight gain will simply produce a larger version of your new silhouette.
Good Liposuction candidates:
- Are in good physical shape, moderately fit and close to their ideal body weight
- Have firm elastic skin
- Have localized fat deposits that are resilient to exercise
- Have realistic expectation for their outcome
- Do not have a life-threatening conditions or illnesses that can impair healing
- Are Non-Smokers
Liposuction can produces scaring, but it is usually minimal. The incisions needed for liposuction are rather small so scars will be small and inconspicuous.
Patients should discuss all their health issues with the doctor, such as the side effects of any medicine. In preparing for liposuction, individuals should undergo a series of physical examinations to determine whether or not their health is good enough to have the procedure performed. Be sure to tell Dr. Doezie any important health information, such as the use of any prescription drugs currently being used.
Risk associated with liposuction include:
- Burns
- Fluid imbalance
- Infection
- Damage to the skin
- Skin necrosis
- Damage of an internal organ
Liposuction Recovery
Immediately after your surgery at our Orange County center, dressings or bandages will be applied to the incision site, and you may be wrapped in a compression garment to minimize swelling. Small temporary drains may be placed to remove any excess blood or fluid. Dr. Doezie or his Orange County staff will provide you with specific instructions.
The period of time required for recovery is based on how large of a part is liposuctioned. It may be possible to resume work on the next day, if a small area is liposuctioned. If the liposuctioned area is large then the amount of swelling and bruising increases it may take more time to recover. Recovery time can vary from days to months based on the size of the treated area. In most of the cases a full recovery can be made within a few months. Patients should keep it in mind that any surgery involves possible risk of bruising, swelling, scars, pain, numbness, limited mobility and other serious side effects.
Liposuction Results
Results may vary from individual to individual. In most of the cases where patients are healthy and of a normal weight, they are happy with the results of liposuction. Collecting sufficient information on liposuction prior to the surgery will reduce the chances of being frustrated with the result.
