Areola Tattooing Available for Breast Cancer Patients

areola tattoos for breast reconstrucitonMission Plastic Surgery is excited to announce that areola tattooing is now available in our office. Areola tattooing is the final step in the breast reconstruction process which can be done three to four weeks after your final surgery. Picking a color is completely up to each individual. Patients can mix pigments to try on their skin prior to the actual tattooing. Once the right color has been chosen topical numbing will be put on the area of skin around the nipple mound and be prepped for tattooing.

Before having the equipment, we referred our patients to cosmetic tattoo artists. Dr. Doezie has recently decided to make completing the reconstruction process easier for all breast cancer patients by becoming a “one-stop-shop” where all of their needs are met. Dr. Doezie has done many of these procedures in the past and would like to continue completing patients’ reconstruction up to their final stage.

Tattooing can take up to three or four session depending on how dark the patient desires the color. At first the color is dark and then fades over the next month until it is time to have the procedure again.
